Description:

Reporting to the Manager, Geotechnical Engineering, the Geotechnical Engineer will be the project manager of a multidisciplinary team working primarily on large oil sand and coal projects from exploration and site investigations to conceptual design through to construction.
 
Summary of Key Responsibilities:
 
Primary responsibilities and essential job functions of the Geotechnical Engineer include but are not limited to the following:
  • Prepare proposals, cost estimates and timelines for projects;
  • Lead the planning, field support, and completion of geotechnical site investigations;

Primary responsibilities and essential job functions of the Staff Engineer or Scientist include but are not limited to the following:

  • Work on multi-disciplinary teams to conduct mining and environmental related projects
  • Use mining, or other applicable software to perform analysis, and develop plans;  coordinate drawings for senior engineers
  • Prepare volumetric estimates and cost estimates
  • Data collection, review and analysis in support of a data base
  • Perform regulatory research and analysis
  • Perform technical research and analysis (geotechnical, reclamation, remedial design)
  • Participate in field data collection activities
  • Assist in preparation of technical reports and presentations
  • Assist in implementation of a quality management system, including document tracking
  • Participate in safety meetings and be committed to a culture of safety (Behavior-based Safety) both in the office and in the field

Required Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • No minimum experience requirements
  • Three to five years of experience preferred
  • Knowledge in Microsoft applications
  • Knowledge of CAD systems
  • Experience in various 3-dimensional, planning, or other software is an asset
  • Eligible for registration as EIT, Professional Engineer, or Professional Geologist, or other professional registration is an asset
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills

Education:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in environmental, mining, civil, geological engineering; or geology, environmental, soil, or other type of science related degree
  • Master of Science not required but considered an asset

Location of Employment:

This position is based in our Denver, Colorado office, with possible travel to field-based assignments to support field activities as required.

Description:

Reporting to the Manager, Water Resources, the Water Resources Engineer’s role will involve various aspects of water management planning and design including hydraulic analyses, hydraulic structures designs, short and long-term water management plans and construction oversight.  The Water Resources Engineer will be working within a dynamic team on a variety of water management, environmental and mining-related projects.

Summary of Key Responsibilities:

Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Water resources engineering including the development of water management plans and design of stream diversions, sedimentation ponds, storage reservoirs, piping and pumping systems, construction dewatering, site drainage, erosion control, and environmental assessments.
  • Field studies including sampling and field surveys, data management and technical report preparation.
  • Contribute to development activities including proposals and pre-qualifications.
  • Participate in Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Policies, Procedures, Standards and Guidelines in the execution of all work.
  • Interact and interface with clients and environmental regulators.
  • Able to work in a dynamic team environment, requiring interaction with suppliers, sub-contractors, and multidisciplinary teams.

Required Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Minimum of two to five years of industry and consulting experience.
  • Registered or eligible for registration with APEGA as EIT or P.Eng.
  • Proficiency working with MS Office Suite, AutoCAD or AutoCAD Civil 3D, and surface water modeling software.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to travel to field locations.
  • Previous experience in surface water and groundwater construction oversight of major earthworks or water control structures is an asset.

Education:

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in in civil, environmental or water resources engineering, geology or hydrology, or related field.

This position is based out of Calgary, with travel to field based assignments to support field operations as required.
