Description

Norwest is seeking a full-time Manager, Processing and Infrastructure. This position will be responsible for managing a group of discipline engineers and providing a lead technical engineering role. This position will have strong emphasis on communication and interaction with other Norwest technical, professional, and management personnel, as well as with existing and potential clients. The successful candidate will contribute to a wide variety of multi-disciplinary projects related to the energy and mining industries from due diligence and feasibility studies to operational on-site assistance.

Responsibilities

  • Developing business with new and existing clients.
  • Preparing and contributing to proposals, cost estimates, and schedules for process and multi-discipline projects.
  • Mentoring and supporting staff.
  • Tracking costs and hours for projects.
  • Contributing to a wide variety of multi-disciplinary projects related to the energy and mining industries from due diligence and feasibility studies to operational on-site assistance.
  • Reviewing, assessing, and interpreting select mining and geology data to develop mineral and metallurgical processes and testing programs.
  • Preparing capital and operating cost estimates.
  • Developing, writing, and reviewing technical reports.
  • Conducting client presentations, including report submissions and project updates.
  • Providing metallurgical and mineral processing consulting expertise to Norwest’s global clients.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience with mineral processing and metallurgical operations and projects obtained through operational and engineering roles.
  • Strong computer skills focusing on Microsoft products, including process-specific applications, such as CAD and 3D design software and process simulation software, developed through operations or consulting experience.
  • Experience in project planning, development, and process operations at a mine.
  • Strong English verbal and technical writing skills, including experience in writing proposals and technical reports.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally to support projects, marketing activities, and client needs.
  • Candidates with coal, trona, potash, and phosphate industry experience will be given priority consideration.
  • Ability to speak a second language will be given priority consideration.

Education and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Metallurgical, Chemical, Mineral Processing, or Mining Engineering or a related engineering degree.
  • Minimum of 15 years’ post university experience working in the mining industry, with experience in technical and/or management roles.
  • Eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer (P.E. or P.Eng.).  

Location of Employment

Potential assignments include supporting surface or underground mine development activities through equipment selection, haulage and mine simulations, and timing sequences. The successful candidate will contribute to a wide variety of multi-disciplinary projects related to the energy and mining industries from due diligence and feasibility studies to operational on-site assistance.

  • Using mining software to assess and develop mineral deposits, including developing 2D and 3D mining models.
  • Developing mine plans and mining schedules for surface mines and underground mines including production schedules, haulage simulations, pit designs, ramp designs, underground mine layouts, underground mine development timing sequences, including preparing mining cost estimates.
  • Providing consulting expertise to Norwest’s global clients.

  • Experience with large surface mining dragline or truck/shovel operations and underground mine development through operational and engineering roles.
  • Strong computer skills focusing on Microsoft products, CarlsonTM, SurvCADDTM planning and utility packages, with 3D block modeling software experience, as well as MinexTM, MineSightTM (or similar).
  • Experience in mine planning and mine operations, individuals with metals mining and industrial minerals experience will be given priority consideration.
  • Experience with proposals and technical reports.
  • Strong English technical writing skills.
